Dear Commissioner Davy:
As a professional educator in the field of Special Education for K-12 students, I would like to provide my endorsement to Princeton International Academy Charter School initiative.
As globalization becomes increasingly prevalent and China has stepped front and center into 21st Century business and commerce, China's political and economic prowess is persuading more Americans to learn Chinese. It definitely reflects a shift from the assumption that learning a language was a formality, to partner with the rest of the world and to collaborate with them. We need to know about their cultures and we need to have their language experience and skills to advance our global competitiveness. Additionally, research has shown that learning a second language at an early age has a positive effect on academic growth and definitely enriches and enhances a child's mental development. It provides students with more flexibility in their thinking, sensitivity to the language, and improves the child's understanding of their native language. The advantages are so powerful and it imparts cultural stimulation and assists the child to understand and appreciate people from other countries and become increasingly aware of other cultures and traditions. As a special education teacher, I also truly believe these language immersion programs are suitable for learners of all ability levels with any cultural backgrounds.
The future Princeton International Academy Charter School will definitely provide great resources to implement access to its program to special student populations and other students requiring service, to ensure adequate instructional support for students, including reading instructions at elementary level, remedial instruction, services for linguistic minority students and consultative services for teachers.
Sincerely,
Yu Miao
