Teacher Assistant
Reports to and works with the classroom Core Teacher, is surpervised by the Head of School. Responsible for assisting the classroom Core Teacher with the
general supervision and management of the class.
Qualifications
High levels of Chinese fluency and literacy.
Conversational level of English fluency and basic literacy.
Bachelor’s degree (in the U.S. or abroad) or meet appropriate requirements for paraprofessionals.
Substitute Certificate in New Jersey.
Experience of working with young children.
The ability to communicate and work effectively with staff and parents.
The ability to work with a diverse group of children.
The ability to engage the interest of young people.
Demonstrate a desire and motivation to continue their education.
Demonstrate flexibility to adapt to constantly changing needs.
In the first year of operation, one full-time-equivalent Teacher Assistant will be assigned
to two classrooms by spliting
his/her time between the two classes or two part-time assistants who are each
assigned to one classroom.
Responsibilities
Work collaboratively with Core Teachers to ensure academic growth for all
students.
Work with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce
learning of material or skills introduced by the Core Teacher.
Perform clerical duties related to the instructional program.
Assist young students with their clothing, snack and meal time routine, and
toileting activities.
Monitor students during non-instructional activities.
Use materials effectively and keep lesson focused on objective.
Communicate with parents when necessary.
Establish a good working relationship with other teaching professionals.
Commit to ongoing professional development by participating in all
professional development opportunities.
Attend all staff meetings and required training.
Help maintain a neat, clean classroom environment that enhances learning.
Perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities as may be assigned by
the Head of School.
